Motorcycle and Scooter Ride To Work Day is Wednesday, July 16, 2008

This year's seventeenth annual motorcycle and scooter commuting demonstration will increase the number of riders on the road, according to Ride to Work, a non-profit advocacy organization. "Riding to work on this day shows the positive value of motorcycles and scooters for transportation. For many people, riding is an economical, efficient and socially responsible form of mobility that saves energy, helps the environment and provides a broad range of other public benefits," states Andy Goldfine, the event organizer. Motorcycle and scooter enthusiasts and rider organizations worldwide encourage their members to ride to work on this day.
According to the United States Census Bureau and the Department of Transportation, over eighty million cars and light trucks are used for daily commuting on American roads, and about 200,000 motorcycles and scooters are a regular part of this mix. On Ride To Work Day, the practical side of riding becomes more visible as a larger number of America's 8,000,000 cycles are ridden to work.
Ride to Work Day helps demonstrate how these vehicles make parking easier and help traffic flow better. Studies have shown that across equal distances, commuting motorcyclists reach their destinations in less time than those using automobiles, that motorcycles and scooters consume less resources per mile than automobiles, and that they take up less space on roads. Motorcycle and scooter riders seek improved employer recognition and support for this form of transportation, and more public and government awareness of the positive value of riding.

Puget Sound HOG PIGNIC
The 2008 Puget Sound HOG PIGNIC preparations are well underway for the Sunday August 3 event at Twanoh State Part at 1PM.

We had a great turn out last year for a first time event.  All nine chapters invited attended and we had about 150 people turn out.  Everyone left saying "Let's do this again".  This year we have 10 chapters in Puget Sound and I'm extending an invite to Yakima and Wenatchee if they'd like to ride over.  There is camping available at several local State Parks for those who would like to overnight it.

The BBQ's will be going for those who want to bring something to grill or you can brown bag it.  The park is located on the south side of Hood Canal about 15 minutes southwest from Belfair.  It has a wonderful 3C's built picnic shelter which we have for the day.  We will have a short ranger talk giving us the history of the area.  There will be a 50/50 where all the money goes back to those that attend.  Prizes are given in various categories.

Don't hesitate to contact me for further information.

July 20, 2008 MDA Summer Camp Motorcycle Night The ride will leave Northwest Harley Davidson at 2pm.  There will be a BBQ at Al's Grocery and Meats in Olalla beginning at 5pm.  After the BBQ, we will ride parade style with other groups to Miracle Ranch in Port Orchard.  The ride to Al's will take about 2 hours.  We will take the goat trail i.e.:  HWY-101 to WA-3 right at Allyn onto WA-302 through Purdy to Olalla.  I expect to get us there about an hour early so we have good parking and so we can help with the parking of other bikes as they roll in to attend the BBQ.  We will begin staging at the shop at 1:30.  The pre-ride briefing will be at 1:50pm.  We will stop for a short restroom break about halfway.  There will be a bike show at the camp.  The campers will vote to choose the bike they like best!  If you plan to participate in this fun event, please try to let me know before July 11th so I can pass the number of people on to the person organizing the BBQ.. mcnamato@comcast.net or 360  561-3045.When the event is over I will head home via HWY 16 across the Narrows Bridge .  The toll going east across the bridge is $4.00.

August 2, 2008 White Water Rafting Overnight Trip:

I am putting on an overnight rafting trip on August 2, 2008.  We will leave NW Harley Davidson Shop early in the morning of August 2, 2008, ride to Index, do the rafting ride and then ride to Wenatchee to spend the night.  We will then have a leisure ride home on Sunday August 3, 2008 (more details to be announced).  Chinook Expeditions will host the rafting ride.  The cost of the rafting ride is $96.00 per person.  Chinook Expeditions requires 50% down 10 days prior to the rafting ride.  This is to ensure that he has enough guides to accommodate the amount of people in our group.  You can give me the 50% and I will pass it on.  I have scheduled 20 rooms at Travel Lodge located in Wenatchee.  The cost of the room is $89.95 for double beds and 85.95 for single bed.  This is as well a group rate.  You would need to call 877-662-8165 to reserve your room and need to mention that you are making reservations under the South Sound Hog Chapter to obtain the group rate.  The Travel Lodge will hold the 20 rooms until July 2, 2008 and then they will be released.  I have reserved 14 double beds and 6 single.  If you are going to attend this ride please let me know via email or by phone where we can make arrangements for the 50% down payment for the rafting ride.  I would like to request that you reserve your room early where if we need more than 20 rooms we would have time to do so.  You can contact me via email at bobby@bccomms.com or via phone - cell:  360-791-1871 or business:  360-456-8388 if you are going to attend this weekend full of fun and great scenery.
